Flags waved along Fairfax Avenue in observance of Memorial Day in this photograph in the May 25, 1972, issue of the Park Labrea News. The flags commemorated military men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. The Vietnam War was occurring at the time and the accompanying article stated the flags also honored prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action. This year, Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills and the Los Angeles National Cemetery are each hosting Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. Forest Lawn is located at 6200 Forest Lawn Drive and the Los Angeles National Cemetery is located at 950 S. Sepulveda Blvd. For information, visit forestlawn.com /events/memorial-day and cem.va.gov/memorial-day.
