The Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Division announced the arrest of a bomb threat and hate crime suspect on April 15 who targeted members of the transgender community.
On March 28 around 9:25 p.m., a male suspect who identified himself as Henry called the National Suicide Hotline and made several statements about bombing the Trans-Latina Coalition headquarters in Koreatown on “Juneteenth” and referenced setting the building on fire using gasoline. He also made a statement about attacking a gay pride parade in June.
The LAPD’s Major Crimes Division was notified and started an investigation. Detectives were able to identify the caller’s telephone number and contacted him. After a lengthy conversation, they identified the caller as 60-year-old Henry Nolkemper, and obtained a tentative address. However, several attempts were made to locate the caller at the address identified during the investigation were unsuccessful.
On April 11, LAPD officers assigned to Metropolitan Division began a surveillance operation at Nolkemper’s last known address in Newton Division in South Los Angeles. Major Crimes Division detectives called Nolkemper, who exited the residence and surrendered. Nolkemper was arrested and booked for making a false bomb threat and a probation hold.
Major Crimes Division presented the case on April 15 to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s Hate Crimes Section, which filed one count of making criminal threats with a hate crime enhancement. He is being held without bail.
