The Beverly Hills Police Department and Beverly Hills Unified School District continue their investigation into AI-generated nude photos that were circulated at Beverly Vista Middle School the week of Feb. 21.

The BHPD has not provided any further updates on the investigation.

The news shook the Beverly Hills school community as parents and teachers learned that Beverly Vista administration received reports of the photos from students on Feb. 21. Following the reports, parents, teachers and members of BHUSD called on the government to enact stricter regulations regarding AI.

“We strongly urge Congress as well as federal and state governments to take immediate and decisive action to protect our children from the potential dangers of unregulated AI technology,” BHUSD Superintendent Michael Bregy wrote in a statement. “We call for the passing of legislation and enforcement of laws that not only punish perpetrators to deter future acts but also strictly regulate evolving AI technology to prevent misuse.”

The situation is the latest in a series of AI-related controversies across the U.S.

Beverly Vista administrators urge anyone with information to come forward. Students are encouraged to contact BulldogAid Wellness Center for support.

An agenda for a closed session BHUSD meeting at 5 p.m. on March 6 listed “approval of stipulated agreement regarding pending expulsion of student” as five of the agenda items. The agenda did not state what the expulsions were referring to. The agenda also listed a “public employee discipline/dismissal/release” as one of the items.
