Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass traveled to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 16 to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting, which runs through Jan. 19.

Bass is advancing a unified national homelessness agenda with mayors from across the country, and is discussing safety, infrastructure and climate improvements. Bass is also meeting with White House officials and members of Congress to advocate for resources for Los Angeles.

“Mayors are on the front lines of the homelessness crisis in our cities each and every day, and in order to create tangible solutions, we must come together around common issues that our cities face and continue to make national change,” Bass said. “During this trip, we will continue to build momentum around a national unified strategy to address homelessness and advance key priorities for Angelenos such as safety, infrastructure quality, climate protection and preparedness for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Games.”

Bass is convening the U.S. Conference of Mayors Homelessness Task Force to establish a path forward on national policy and advocacy, and harness the power of mayors across the nation to further collaborate on federal legislative, regulatory and budgetary action.

The meeting builds on work last November when Los Angeles hosted a national summit on homelessness for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Bass is also meeting with United States Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge to thank her for the Biden administration’s support to address the homelessness crisis and discuss pathways to continue work in Los Angeles. She plans to mobilize hundreds of thousands of Americans to participate in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Develop ment’s Point-in-Time count by co-hosting a press conference with other members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Homelessness Task Force. Additionally, Bass is meeting with United States Department of Labor Acting Secretary Julie Su to thank her for her work to help resolve labor negotiations at the Port of Los Angeles and discuss ways to continue improvements to working conditions for Angelenos.

The mayor is working to prepare the Los Angeles region for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Games by meeting with FIFA host city mayors and receiving a briefing regarding the event. Bass is joining other mayors at the White House for a conversation with administration officials and remarks by President Joe Biden. The Latino Leaders Network is also bestowing the Antonio Villaraigosa Leadership Award at the 39th Tribute to Mayors Dinner.
