The Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment is encouraging residents to apply to be a neighborhood empowerment advocate project coordinator. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Neighborhood empowerment advocates are field representatives who promote civic participation in government and the neighborhood council system. They provide direct neighborhood council support by interpreting documents and ordinances related to governance. They also develop informal training and group programs to support the growth and development of the System of Neighborhood Councils and provide individual support for neighborhood council board members.

Ideal candidates will have experience with the neighborhood council system, but it is not required. They will also have strong public speaking skills, a minimum of three years of intensive community organizing experience, and a valid California driver’s license and personal vehicle. Fluency in another language, spatial mapping skills, social media knowledge and an understanding of the principles of board governance, while not required, are highly desirable.
