Rotary District 5280, which includes Wilshire Rotary, held its inaugural Peace Walk on Oct. 28 in the historic West Adams District. The walk began at 9 a.m. at the Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd., and brought together members from 63 clubs. One of Rotary International’s main focuses is promoting peace throughout the world.

“We [are] marching, appealing for peace … to come together for positive peace fellowship. Peace must begin at home, at school, in our neighborhoods and in our own country. This Peace Walk is our genuine call to take action for peace building,” said Makiko Nakasone, governor of Rotary District 5280. “When my co-chairs Marsha Hunt, Bettye Walker and I discussed this several months ago, we had no idea that the world would be in such a stressful situation. So for us, unexpectedly, this is a very timely event. I am hoping that the Peace Walk will reach people’s hearts, and at the same time become a promotion of Rotary.”

Rotary District 5280 serves 2,000 members throughout Los Angeles. Wilshire Rotary meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Ebell of Los Angeles, 743 S.
