Wilshire Rotary is among 18 Rotary clubs that are participating in the Rise Against Hunger food packaging event on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Torrance YMCA.
People are needed early at 7:30 a.m. to help set up, and friends, neighbors and community members are welcome. The goal is to package more than 38,000 meals.
The event is being led by South Bay Sunrise Rotary in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, an organization dedicated to ending world hunger by 2030.
Each meal bag contains soy, rice, dehydrated vegetables and a vitamin/mineral packet for six people. Volunteers are needed to help with the bulk food packaging.
Meals are distributed throughout the world in areas affected by natural and man-made disasters, and 40% of all packaged foods are sent to schools in developing nations. Additionally, monetary donations help cover the cost of food purchases, organizational costs and shipping.
The Torrance YMCA is located at 2900 W. Sepulveda Blvd. For information, call David Henseler at (310)753-0929 or email [email protected].
