The city of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series, in conjunction with Netflix, will host a screening of the film “The Dads” followed by a panel discussion featuring director Luchina Fisher and participants from the film.

The event will take place on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the West Hollywood’s Council Chambers /Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and opening remarks will take place at 7 p.m., followed by the film screening and panel discussion. The event is free, but seating is limited. “The Dads” is a short documentary, executive produced by Dwyane Wade. In this gentle meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood, and manhood, five fathers of trans children join Dennis Shepard – the father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard – for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma. As the men cast their lines into the river, they find common ground across racial, geographical, and generational lines: their unconditional love for their children.

West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series brings together diverse communities to learn about and discuss global, national and local human rights issues in a supportive environment. The series reflects the city’s commitment to human rights and core value of respect and support for people.
