The Culinary Historians of Southern California presents an illustrated lecture titled “My Family’s Alsatian Wartime Journal, with Recipes” by author, cooking instructor and tour leader Kitty Morse on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m., via Zoom.
Morse’s discovery of her French great-grandfather’s war journal chronicling the advance of the Germans in Le Grand Est (Alsace Lorraine) from April to December 1940, along with two notebooks filled with handwritten recipes from her French great-grandmother Blanche, a Holocaust victim, provided her with the inspiration for “Bitter Sweet: A Wartime Journal and Heirloom Recipes from Occupied France.”
