The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will increase patrols throughout the community and hold traffic safety programs during the holidays through a $2.094 million state grant to help reduce serious injuries and deaths.
“This grant funding allows us to support our ongoing traffic safety efforts in the community,” Sgt. Michael Lennig said. “Our intent is to stop the most unlawful and dangerous behaviors that put people at risk and create an environment where everyone feels safe traveling.”
The grant will provide funds for additional programs and resources including DUI checkpoints and patrols, high visibility distracted driving enforcement operations and dangerous driver behaviors that put the safety of cyclists and pedestrians at risk. Enforcement operations will focus on speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and red-light violations, and improper turning and lane changes. The grant will also be used for deputy training.
