Crews are working on Metro’s Purple Line Extension subway project at numerous locations along Wilshire Boulevard in October. Section one of the project from Wilshire/Western to Wilshire/La Cienega is scheduled to open in 2024. Section two from Wilshire/La Cienega to Century City/Constellation Station is scheduled to open in 2025, and section three from Century City to Westwood is anticipated to open in 2027.
A K-rail work zone will be implemented on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard on Oct. 14 between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards, and along northbound La Cienega Boulevard. For approximately six months, Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards, and northbound La Cienega Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes just north of Wilshire Boulevard. Crews are restoring curbs, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and tree wells in the area.
Metro is advising about piling work on South Cañon Drive that will require full weekend closures of Cañon Drive from 8:15 p.m. on Friday night through 7 a.m. on Monday morning on Oct. 23. Nightly lane closures in both directions may be in place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Crosswalks and pedestrian access within the work zone will be limited.
Excavation is ongoing on South Beverly Drive for the construction of appendage structures, which are rooms and passageways adjacent to the station. The work requires nightly lane closures on South Beverly Drive in both directions from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Wilshire Boulevard may be reduced to one lane in each direction in the area.
Weekend closures of Wilshire Boulevard are anticipated to occur through Nov. 6 at Wilshire/La Brea. Wilshire Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. the following Monday. Concrete deck panels will be removed on the surface of Wilshire Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Detroit Street and replaced with a permanent surface. Olympic Boulevard and Sixth Street are recommended as detours.
Near Fairfax Avenue, a K-rail work zone has been implemented on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard through November. Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between Spaulding Avenue and San Diego Way, and at La Jolla Avenue, through June 2024.
Utility work and appendage construction will continue in October near the Century City/Constellation station. A sewer and storm drain are being removed from within the project area through the fourth quarter of 2023. Intermittent lane closures will be implemented nightly on Constellation Boulevard to support the removal of steel components inside the station box through Sunday, Oct. 15. Traffic reconfigurations and lane closures may be in place in the area on Constellation Boulevard. Vehicle access on Constellation Boulevard is being maintained between Century Park West and Century Park East.
