The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority has implemented new street-level construction work zones near Wilshire/La Cienega as part of the Purple Line Extension subway project.
For the next six months, a K-rail work zone will be in place on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards, and along northbound La Cienega Boulevard. Crews have removed a similar work zone on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard. The new work zones will facilitate the restoration of sidewalks and curbs on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard. Crews will also install new tree wells and bus pads.
Wilshire will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards, and northbound La Cienega Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes just north of Wilshire Boulevard.
Farther east, Metro is completing roadway decking work on weekends near Wilshire/La Brea through Nov. 6. Wilshire Boulevard will be closed at La Brea Avenue from Friday at 9 p.m. through 6 a.m. the following Monday. Olympic Boulevard and Sixth Street are recommended as detours.
Near Wilshire/Fairfax, crews are working underground on the station and at street level. Through November, a K-rail work zone on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue will be in place. Traffic on Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Spaulding Avenue and San Diego Way. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north sidewalk.
Wilshire Boulevard has also been reduced to two lanes in each direction at La Jolla Avenue through June 2024. Cross passage construction is occurring in a work zone in the center of the street.
In Beverly Hills, piling work is scheduled to continue on weekends on South Cañon Drive through Oct. 23. A full weekend closure of Cañon Drive is anticipated to begin at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night and run through 7 a.m. on Monday morning. Crosswalks and pedestrian access will be limited around the work zone. Crews are also building appendage structures, which are rooms and passageways adjacent to the station, around the subway station.
Near the Century City/Constellation station, utility work and appendage construction will continue in late October. Excavation of the station entrance is underway and work supporting excavation will be ongoing.
Eastbound and westbound vehicle access on Constellation Boulevard is being maintained between Century Park West and Century Park East. Subway work in the area may prompt lane closures. All driveways are accessible in the area.
