To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles is proud to showcase an art exhibition called “Expression of Life: The World of Self-Taught Artists with Disabilities.” The exhibition features over 35 vibrant artworks from Katayama Studio’s collection. The studio is one of Japan’s earliest art studios dedicated to supporting self-expression and art activities for individuals with disabilities and it has been doing so for two decades.
The exhibition features the work of 12 artists, including calligraphy and oil painting, as well as video clips of the artists’ creative process. The free-flowing and lively art pieces convey diverse perspectives on creativity and life.
The exhibition is on view through Dec. 16. Japan Foundation is located at 5700 Wilshire Blvd., #100. It is open Monday-Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
