The Autry Museum of the American West is celebrating its 35th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 10 a.m. with a day full of activities. Tickets start at $4.75 and include full museum access to the anniversary celebration on the lawn, food trucks, live music, carnival games and Native Voices performances.
The special 35th anniversary ticket prices are the same amount as tickets were when the museum first opened in 1988. The Autry Museum of the American West will concurrently present Native Voices’ premiere of “Where the Summit Meets the Stars,” a production by Frank Henry Kaash Katasse. When a near-death experience derails her flight through Southeast Alaska, Rose awakens to find herself in the care of the kind stranger who pulled her to safety. As they journey by boat through the darkness and fog, Rose untangles the mysteries of her past, questions the world around her and comes to an inescapable crossroads. “Where the Summit Meets the Stars” is an ethereal Alaska Native story driven by music, dance and the culture of the Tlingit people. Opening night is on Friday, Sept. 29, and the play runs through Oct. 15.
A reception begins at 7 p.m. and the performance starts at 8 p.m. The Autry Museum of the American West is located at 4700 Western Heritage Way in Griffith Park. For information, visit theautry.org/nativevoices.
