Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division are searching for a suspect who robbed a female victim around 9 p.m. on Sept. 7 at her condominium complex in Hancock Park.

Authorities located security camera footage that showed the suspect was dropped off on McCadden Place near the victim’s complex in the 4900 block of Wilshire Boulevard and followed the victim’s vehicle inside before the gate closed. The suspect robbed the victim at gunpoint and stole jewelry and a purse containing approximately $25,000 in cash. The victim, who owns a furniture store in Koreatown, believes she was followed home from the business, Lt. Mark Ro said. The victim was not injured.

“He had been dropped off and followed her into the underground parking garage,” Ro added. “She handed over her purse and he fled in the four-door black sedan driven by [another] suspect. They fled north on McCadden Place. We did find the victim’s wallet on McCadden but it was empty.”

Authorities have not linked the robbery to any other similar crimes in the area. The victim’s business had been burglarized a couple months ago, and authorities checked to see if there may be a connection. Investigators determined officers in the Olympic Division arrested suspects for that burglary. Ro said they do not match the description of the suspect in the Sept. 7 robbery.

“She admitted to carrying a large amount of cash that day in her purse because she had recently been burglarized and she didn’t feel safe leaving it at the business,” he added.

The robbery suspect was described as Black, approximately 6 feet tall and was wearing a blue camouflaged hooded sweatshirt and black shorts. No description was available of the suspect who drove the vehicle.

Ro cautioned people to be aware of their surroundings, particularly when driving into residential parking structures. Always make sure no one has entered before the gate closes, as criminals sometimes wait outside to gain access, Ro added. Motorists are advised to call 911 to report suspicious activity. Ro said it can be helpful to drive around the parking lot once to ensure no one is following.

“Be careful when you get into cars in parking lots. Sometimes people are texting or doing certain things and people are out there watching, he added. [The suspect] was wearing distinctive blue camouflaged clothing, so hopefully somebody recognizes him and calls us.”
