The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is advising about work on the Purple line Extension subway project during September at multiple locations along Wilshire Boulevard.
Near Wilshire/La Cienega, concrete deck panels are being removed on weekends, prompting closures on Wilshire Boulevard. The work is expected to conclude over the weekend of Sept. 8-11. The intersection of Wilshire/La Cienega will be closed, and Wilshire Boulevard will also be fully closed between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards. Local access to La Cienega Boulevard will be maintained from Clifton Way and Gregory Way.
Station appendage construction continues on Wilshire Boulevard between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards. A K-rail work zone may be removed in mid-October. Left turn restrictions will remain in place at Gale and Hamilton drives. Intermittent closures on South Gale and South Hamilton Drive may be implemented at Wilshire Boulevard to support appendage work.
In Beverly Hills, piling and decking activities on South Beverly Drive have been completed, concluding a five consecutive weekend effort to prepare for the construction of appendage structures. Excavation activity will follow on South Beverly Drive and is anticipated to require nightly lane closures in both directions from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Piling and decking activity is scheduled to begin at the end of September on South Cañon Drive at Wilshire Boulevard and will require weekend closures.
Decking removal work will begin on Sept. 29 and continue for up to six weekends near Wilshire/LaBrea. Wilshire Boulevard will be closed in both directions between Mansfield and Cloverdale avenues. La Brea Avenue will also be closed in both directions at Wilshire Boulevard. The work will begin on Fridays at 9 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. the following Monday. Two lanes currently remain open in each direction between Highland and La Brea avenues. Work is also occurring within construction staging yards at Wilshire/La Brea.
At the Wilshire/Fairfax station, crews are working within a staging yard at Wilshire Boulevard and Ogden Drive, and within a K-rail work zone on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue. The work zone near Wilshire/Fairfax accommodates street restoration and will be in place through November. Farther west, Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between Spaulding Avenue and San Diego Way, and at La Jolla Avenue.
At the Century City/ Constellation station, crews are relocating a sanitary sewer and storm drain from the station site. Preparation work has also begun to construct appendages and side structures adjacent to the future station. Excavation is progressing for the underground station beneath Constellation Boulevard and is anticipated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Traffic closures may be implemented around the station area to accommodate the work. Left turns are restricted from northbound Avenue of the Stars onto westbound Constellation Boulevard. Avenue of the Stars will also be reduced to one lane north and southbound at Constellation Boulevard.
