Los Angeles Fire Department personnel extinguished a blaze on Sept. 23 in a vacant single-family home at 645 N. Gardner St., just south of Melrose Avenue. The house was been fenced and boarded. The LAFD received a call at approximately 2:30 p.m. about a possible fire inside the structure and arrived to find debris burning. The flames were extinguished in 12 minutes. The quick response was credited with preventing more damage to the structure, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said. Nobody was inside the building when firefighters arrived and the cause remains under investigation.
