Construction is ongoing on the Purple Line Extension subway project and Metro is advising about work at multiple locations.
Metro has announced that decking replacement has concluded near Wilshire/La Cienega. Station appendage construction and backfilling continues on Wilshire Boulevard between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards, and Wilshire Boulevard is reduced to two lanes in each direction. Metro has announced that a K-rail work zone in the area may be removed in mid-October. Additional details will be provided in a future construction notice. Closures on South Gale and South Hamilton Drive may be implemented at Wilshire Boulevard to support appendage work. Work will also continue in staging yards at Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Gale.
Piling and decking activity on South Beverly Drive has concluded and excavation work has begun on appendage structures adjacent to the future subway station. Excavation activity will require overnight lane and crosswalk closures during weekdays South Beverly Drive. The work is anticipated to take approximately two months to complete. If excavation activity extends beyond the anticipated timeframe, no work will take place during the holidays.
Piling and decking activity is scheduled to begin at the end of September on South Cañon Drive at Wilshire Boulevard and will require weekend closures.
Metro has also announced that decking removal work will begin on Sept. 29 and continue for up to six weekends near Wilshire/La Brea. During the weekend work, Wilshire Boulevard will be closed in both directions between Mansfield and Cloverdale avenues. The work will begin on Fridays at 9 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. the following Monday. At all other times, two lanes will remain open in each direction between Highland and La Brea avenues.
Work is also ongoing at the Wilshire/Fairfax station. A K-rail work zone on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue will be in place through November. Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between Spaulding Avenue and San Diego Way, and at a K-rail work zone in the middle of Wilshire Boulevard at La Jolla Avenue.
Utility work continues to progress at the Century City/Constellation station. Crews are relocating a sanitary sewer and storm drain from the station site. Preparation work has also begun to construct appendages and side structures adjacent to the future station. Excavation is progressing for the underground station beneath Constellation Boulevard and is anticipated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Traffic closures may be implemented in the area. Partial traffic lane closures are currently in place on Constellation Boulevard to facilitate station excavation, hauling and material deliveries. Eastbound and westbound vehicle access on Constellation Boulevard is being maintained between Century Park West and Century Park East.
