Re “Neighbors unite as housing element looms,” Aug. 31 issue

The article last week confused me. The Housing Element is a citywide concern, not solely a Hancock Park issue. The United Neighbors Coalition includes neighborhood councils and neighborhood groups, resident associations and HOAs across the city.

Editor’s note: The Los Angeles Department of City Planning is currently working to implement many of the programs included in the Housing Element, including a Housing Element Rezoning Program known as the Citywide Housing Incentive Program, or CHIP. The city is required to have the CHIP program adopted and effective by February 2025.

The city’s Housing Element will guide planning practices in neighborhoods throughout the city and determine where new housing can be located. The Rezoning Program consists of several different implementation programs, including the Citywide Housing Incentive Program and Community Plan updates. Organizations including the United Neighbors Coalition and the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition are raising awareness about the Housing Element and the fact that it will impact neighborhoods across Los Angeles.
