American Jewish University and educational website My Jewish Learning are hosting “High Holy Days for the Soul,” a series of three community events highlighting various paths to spiritual enlightenment and personal growth throughout the High Holy Days.
During the Teshuva and Repentance event on Tuesday, Sept. 12, Israeli writer, fitness coach and inspirational speaker David Ben Moshe will join Rachel Scheinerman, editor of My Jewish Learning, for an inspiring discussion about the Jewish tradition of repentance. By sharing insights from his journey to Judaism – including a prison sentence, conversion and lifestyle change – Ben Moshe will provide valuable lessons for achieving meaningful transformations in life.

Rabbi Sharon Brous, author and senior and founding rabbi of non-denomination Jewish congregation IKAR, will speak with AJU director of undergraduate initiatives for a discussion on fostering intentionality and meaning in prayer on Thursday, Sept. 28. Brous will also share insights from her book “The Amen Effect” to guide viewers toward a deeper spiritual experience.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles Rabbi Noah Farkas and Vogel will discuss why Tzedakah, the act of charitable giving, is a crucial aspect of the high holy days. Farkas, who played an essential role in rebuilding Congregation Beth Israel after Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi, will share his perspective on how Tzedakah strengthens people’s connection to each other and the world around them.
