West Hollywood continues its 2023 Summer Sounds free outdoor concert series with Hannah Blaylock and Honey Whiskey Trio performing on Sunday, July 30, at 4 p.m. at Plummer Park.
Blaylock, an award-winning country and Americana singer-songwriter born in Alaska and raised in Arkansas, developed a band as a ninth grader that would later become the chart-topping trio Edens Edge. Blaylock performed and wrote their top-20 country radio hit, “Amen,” and Blaylock’s “Bandit Queen” was co-written and played by The Chicks. She also wrote “Stronger Than the Truth,” which was recorded by Grammy-winning artist Reba McEntire.
Honey Whiskey Trio is based in Los Angeles and tells stories through song and stomp, highlighting the musical traditions of American folk music. Alumni of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State University, Long Beach, the trio’s members began singing together in 2013. The singers create, arrange and explore music from the front porches, music halls, and hymn books of early America.
The series continues on Aug 20 at 4 p.m. with Changüí Majadero and DJ Jedi. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Gabriel García, L.A-based Changüí Majadero blends traditional Afro-Cuban music with modern influences to create a unique sound. The band has been at the forefront of the West Coast’s Latin music scene, performing at festivals, clubs and cultural events throughout the United States.
West Hollywood’s 2023 Summer Sounds series is organized by the city’s Arts Division. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics, low chairs and blankets. Admission is free, and RSVPs are requested.
Plummer Park is located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. For information, visit weho.org/summersounds.
