Two-time Emmy Award-winning songwriter and actress Vonda Shepard, fresh off the release of her new album “Red Light, Green Light,” is gearing up to perform at Herb Alper’s Vibrato Grill Jazz on Thursday, July 13, with shows at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Shepherd began her career as a backup singer for artists like Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau and Jackson Browne, whom she also opened up for across the United States. Vonda catapulted to international stardom when she was cast on the wildly popular TV show “Ally McBeal,” producing over 500 songs for the series and earning a massive worldwide hit with its theme song, “Seachin’ My Soul.” A soulful, passionate musician who deftly blends soaring vocals with formidable piano skills, she’s sold over 12 million albums, won two Golden Globes, two Emmys and two SAG Awards – and to this day she holds the Billboard record for selling the most television soundtracks in history.
Produced by her husband Mitchell From (Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac), Vonda’s latest album “Red Light, Green Light” reflects Vonda’s classic, deeply personal introspection.
“The album was written and recorded during the height of the pandemic,” she said. “It took a massive amount of discipline to go through this process but the isolation actually lent itself to going deep into the writing.”
The album offers energetic tunes and soulful ballads written with purity, joy and pain, covering themes of unrequited love, the “heartbreaking experience of being a parent” and the existential crisis that we all experienced during the pandemic, balanced with a touch of hope that all of her songs evoke.
Cover charge is $50 and $25 at the bar. Vibrato Grill Jazz is located at 2930 Beverly Glen Circle.
