Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit are searching for a male gunman who shot and killed a teen and wounded two other people around 3:50 a.m. on July 9 in Beverly Grove.
The shooting occurred near the corner of Third Street and Orlando Avenue. Officers received calls about shots fired and arrived to find three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 17-year-old male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the deceased victim as Zackary Dickson-Hislop, of Los Angeles. Another 17-year-old male and a 26-year-old male who were struck by gunfire were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in stable condition.
Detective Sam Marullo, with the West Bureau Homicide Unit, said the shooting occurred after a dispute. Prior to the shooting, the victims had been at Berri’s Café and were leaving when an argument took place.
“Berri’s stays open until four in the morning, so it attracts a lot of people who are hungry late at night,” Marullo said. “I don’t know that it’s tied to Berri’s, other than [the victims] had been there. Berri’s has been very cooperative. It happened outside.”
Marullo said the argument and shooting occurred on Orlando Avenue just south of Third Street. He added that numerous vehicles fled the area after the shooting. The surviving victims and witnesses have been uncooperative, he said. The investigation is ongoing.
“We don’t have any more details, nothing to shed light on the motive,” Marullo said.
