Firefighters extinguished a blaze on July 7 in a vacant single-family house at 876 S. Norton Ave., between Wilshire and Olympic boulevards. The fire was reported at 3:37 p.m. The first firefighters to arrive saw flames and smoke coming from the attic and rear of the house and called for more personnel. More than 70 firefighters extinguished the flames in 23 minutes. Nobody was inside the house or a converted rear garage, and no injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation.
