The Greenway Arts Alliance is holding a special Juneteenth celebration on Sunday, June 18. Join Greenway Arts and the Mid City West Neighborhood Council at the Melrose Trading Post for a community event celebrating Black freedom, resilience and joy.
The celebration will include a space for Black musicians, poets, authors, artists, dancers, comedians, creative small business owners and community members. The line-up includes Eclectuals Book Market Presents: Story Time in the Garden featuring Angela Shanté and “The Noisy Classroom”; a roller skate performance by the Disco Oasis; musical performances by Zyanna Melada and Lawrence Gilliam, Chaley Rose, Sydney Raneé and Tim Reynolds; a dance performance by Fairfax High School Dance Company; comedy by Nthenya Ndunda and Bri Giger; and poetry by Lynda LaRose and AKoldPiece.
The celebration showcases an art exhibit with works by Dana A. Greaves, Devin Wesley, Nicole Reynolds, Allesa Willis, Shaylen Nelson, Shannon Scates, Jose Zuno and Bad Art Inc. The marketplace will feature Rhinestone Master Creations, Nena’s Organics, Eclectuals Book Market, African Charm, New Heritage, M.C. Deerwood, Brown Haze Jewelry, Just a Tote, Le Trois Apothecary and Octavia Morgan.
The Melrose Trading Post is held every Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the Fairfax High School campus, 7850 Melrose Ave. It is a program of Greenway Arts Alliance, a community-based nonprofit whose mission is to connect communities through art, education and social entrepreneurship. The Melrose Trading Post includes more than 250 local creative small businesses and vendors, as well as food and live music.
