The city of Beverly Hills is joining other communities across the state to recognize July as Parks Make Life Better Month.
The statewide initiative, recognized by the California Parks and Recreation Society, is a public awareness campaign promoting the benefits of parks, recreational activities and community services for people of all ages.
Parks shape perceptions of a community and its overall quality of life, building a sense of place. Parks and recreation programs promote health and wellness, improving the physical and mental well-being of residents and visitors.
The city of Beverly Hills has 15 parks with more than 87 acres of park space. The parks provide space for activities and programs as well as baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, pickleball courts, jogging paths, outdoor exercise equipment, picnic areas and playgrounds.
At community centers and shared space facilities, the city offers afterschool enrichment, recreation, hundreds of classes for everyone from tots to seniors, a teen center and activities, senior gatherings and a robust calendar of community and special events.
“The Parks Make Life Better public awareness campaign is an important initiative. Parks and recreation provide community members with a better quality of life,” community services director Stephanie Harris said. “The parks are great for gathering and socializing. Our recreation programs provide possibilities for new experiences and learning. Individually and together, we thrive through connection and the Community Services Department strives to build community connection through our parks and programs.”
Beverly Hills’ Community Services Department is celebrating Parks Make Life Better Month with a variety of activities. The parks are open every day for walks. Make Beverly Gardens Park a place to take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful gardens and green spaces. The park extends 22 blocks, or 1.9 miles, along Santa Monica Boulevard.
Enjoy the Beverly Hills Farmers’ Market on July 2 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., with games and prizes at the Recreation and Parks Booth. On July 6, from 6-8 p.m., enjoy a concert with a 1960s tribute band, games and children’s arts and crafts at Beverly Canon Gardens.
