Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division announced on May 12 that two men are in custody in Chicago and a third man was arrested in New York for a Jan. 28 triple murder at a residence in the 2700 block of Ellison Drive in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.
The three victims were killed and six other people were injured after returning from a concert to a home being used as a short-term rental in the Beverly Crest neighborhood, authorities said.
Dejean Thompkins, 28, and Dontae Williams, 23, were arrested with the assistance of federal and local authorities in the Chicago area. Daries Stanford, 28, was taken into custody by authorities in New York. All three suspects are alleged gang members from Chicago.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Thompkins, Williams and Stanford with three counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Thompkins also faces an additional count of murder for a December 2022 homicide in North Hollywood. The criminal complaint alleges the special circumstance allegations of lying in wait and committing multiple murders.
The three deceased victims, Iyana Hutton, 33, Nenah Davis, 29, and Destiny Sims, 26, were friends who were visiting from the Chicago area. Police did not release a motive for the shooting but believe it may have been robbery.
Authorities said the victims were confronted by the armed suspects as they arrived at the residence in two vehicles. The defendants opened fire as members of the group got out of the cars, authorities said.
“This was a careless and senseless act that has left the victims’ families stunned and devastated,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said. “This is another example of the widespread damage that can be done by gun violence.”
Thompkins is also accused of murdering Julian Bynum, 30, on Dec. 16, 2022, as the victim stood outside an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Simpson Avenue in North Hollywood. Thompkins allegedly shot the victim multiple times. Police did not release a motive for the homicide.
The suspects are awaiting extradition to Los Angeles to face charges. An arraignment will be scheduled at a later date, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
