A male suspect who police said is a transient was arrested in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on May 18 for allegedly stabbing a victim.

The stabbing occurred around 2 p.m. near Formosa Avenue and Romaine Street in the Los Angeles Police Department’s jurisdiction, said Sgt. Sergeant Evelio Galvez with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The suspect walked approximately one block north to Santa Monica Boulevard in the city of West Hollywood and was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies a short time later.

The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and is recovering. Authorities did not release a motive. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed a misdemeanor assault charge against the suspect, Galvez said. The suspect’s name was not released.

Footage from the scene of the arrest was broadcast by the television news stations, showing multiple police vehicles blocking streets near the West Hollywood Gateway retail complex at Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. Only one victim was injured, and there was no further threat to public safety, authorities said.
