Amid the resilience and resurgence of vinyl records, the growth of an artisanal record industry and Angelenos’ distinct connections to music and culture, The Music Center announces its first-ever “On the Record: Vinyl Fair” to be held on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center. The free five-hour festivity, showcasing the discovery and love of vinyl records, will feature more than a dozen vendors selling records from a variety of music genres, workshops, artmaking activities, interactive augmented reality experience, dance performances and live DJs.

The daylong outdoor celebration is co-created by The Music Center – L.A.’s only performing arts destination – and members of its Partner Network Initiative, including Raélle Dorfan (Dance Resource Center), Dexter Story (LFTE), Alejandro Cohen (dublab), Gustavo Herrera (Arts for LA), Karen Mack (LA Commons), and Shana Habel (LAUSD Arts Education Branch).

“Vinyl came onto the scene over a hundred years ago and quickly emerged as the most popular way to love and experience recorded music. We’ve played cassette tapes, compact discs and other digital media over the years, but vinyl records still thrill us and bring joy,” said Josephine Ramirez, executive vice president, TMC Arts, the programming arm of The Music Center. “The Music Center’s ‘On the Record: Vinyl Fair’ demystifies vinyl for the curious while giving aficionados of all ages and generations another opportunity to go deep and geek out.”

The Music Center’s Partner Network Initiative is a cohort of arts and culture leaders, community organizers and artists that convenes with The Music Center as a think tank, sounding board and co-creator of countywide programming. Formalized in 2020, the PNI strives to deepen partnership across L.A.-based arts and cultural organizations through resource sharing and community engagement. PNI partners also co-created The Music Center’s Plaza Playlist program in which each partner created a custom music playlist around a theme of their choice that was played for a month during the summer and fall of 2022 on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center.
