Learn the latest updates on the Purple Line Extension subway project during an in-person meeting on Wednesday, June 7, from 6-7 p.m. at Beverly Hills City Hall, 455 N. Rexford Drive.
Work is occurring at many locations at street level on Wilshire Boulevard and at the future Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, Wilshire/La Cienega and Wilshire/Rodeo subway stations. Section one of the project between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/ La Cienega is anticipated to open in late 2024. Section two of the project is expected to be complete by 2025 and will include the Wilshire/Rodeo and Century City/Constellation stations. Section three with the Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital station is expected to open in 2027.
Farther west, work is ongoing in a staging yard at Wilshire Boulevard and Ogden Drive, and near Wilshire/Fairfax. Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction in the area. Crews are also working in a K-rail enclosure in the center of Wilshire Boulevard, west of La Jolla Avenue.
Decking removal will continue this coming weekend at Wilshire/La Cienega. Concrete panels are being removed and the roadway is being restored. Wilshire Boulevard will be completely closed from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards. Motorists are advised to use San Vicente or Robertson boulevards to Burton Way as a detour.
Crews are also building underground appendage structures at the Wilshire/La Cienega subway station. Appendage structures are passageways and rooms adjacent to the main subway station. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards, and left turns will be restricted at Gale and Hamilton drives. Construction is also occurring in a K-rail work zone on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard just east of La Cienega Boulevard.
For the next two months, crews will be conducting potholing activities on South Beverly Drive at Wilshire Boulevard. Anticipated work hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekends.
At the Century City/ Constellation station, crews are relocating a sewer and storm drain through June. Left turns are restricted from northbound Avenue of the Stars onto westbound Constellation Boulevard, and Avenue of the Stars will be reduced to one lane north and southbound at Constellation Boulevard.
Utility work is also occurring at the Westwood/UCLA subway station through June 30. The work will be conducted on the northwest corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Gayley Avenue, and in the intersection. Crews will also continue working on storm drain catch basins in the Westwood area.
Contractors will install dewatering well risers and laterals to support construction at the Westwood/UCLA Station on weeknights through June 30. Lane reductions will be implemented on westbound Wilshire Boulevard between Westwood Boulevard and Gayley Avenue.
