The city of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series presents “The Crusade Against Child Abuse,” a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the West Hollywood Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.

The panel will examine existing laws and practices, available programs and services, risk factors and the long-term impacts of child abuse on victims, their families and society. The goal is to raise awareness about child abuse and provide information about services. Approximately five children die every day from abuse and more than 3.6 million cases of child abuse are reported every year in the United States.

The panel will include Bethel Cope-Vega, a deputy district attorney specializing in child abuse cases; Jonathan Hatami, a child abuse case prosecutor; and Brian Knappenberger, director of “The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez.” Dawn McCoy, a television host and child abuse prevention advocate, will moderate the discussion.

West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series brings together diverse communities to learn about and discuss global, national and local human rights issues in a supportive environment.
