Dr. Henry Heimlich and actors Marla Gibbs and Dwayne Hickman demonstrated the life-saving Heimlich maneuver at Fairfax High School in this photograph in the April 13, 2000, issue of the Beverly Press and Park Labrea News. Heimlich was promoting an educational video that made learning the maneuver easy and fun for students. The Heimlich maneuver, which is used to clear an obstructed airway when someone is choking, is credited with saving thousands of lives since it was created in 1974. Heimlich created the video, which starred Gibbs and Hickman, after research determined only half of high school students knew how to perform the life-saving technique.
