Many are remembering former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, left, who died on April 19 at the age of 92. Riordan, shown with Beverly Press and Park Labrea News publisher Michael Villalpando in a photograph circa the 1990s, served as mayor from 1993-2001. Riordan is credited with helping guide the city through a period of economic recession, uncertainty and rebuilding in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Riordan, the longtime owner of the Original Pantry Café downtown, was also an attorney, investment banker, businessman and philanthropist. A memorial mass honoring Riordan will be held on April 28 at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. It will be livestreamed at youtube.com/olacathedral.
