Numerous congregations across the Los Angeles area are preparing for Easter services this weekend. Among them is Hollywood United Methodist Church, located at 6817 Franklin Ave. A year ago, the Beverly Press discussed waning church attendance with the HUMC pastor Kathy Cooper-Ledesma. Now, Cooper-Ledesma said that the congregation has seen an uptick in participants.
“Attendance has been slowly growing at both of our campuses,” Cooper-Ledesma said. “Based on the good attendance we had on Palm Sunday [April 2], we are expecting about 80% of our pre-COVID Easter congregation.”
That means the church may be hosting over 500 people for its Sunday services. HUMC has several events planned for Easter weekend. A Maundy Thursday worship will be held at the church’s sister campus Harmony Toluca Lake, located at 4301 Cahuenga Blvd., on April 6 at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, a self-guided prayer and meditation will be offered on both campuses from noon to 3 p.m. The Hollywood location will host two in-person services on Sunday, April 9, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., with the second service available to stream on at hollywoodumc.org.
All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, located at 504 N. Camden Drive, will also have Easter Services on April 9 at 9 and 11 a.m. A Maundy Thursday service on April 6, holy eucharist and foot washing will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. A Good Friday service will take place at 12:10 p.m. on April 7. An Easter Vigil holy eucharist service will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills, located at 504 N. Roxbury Drive, will offer a 7:30 p.m. Holy Thursday service, Good Friday services at noon and 7:30 p.m., an Easter vigil at 8 p.m. on April 8 and Sunday services at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.
First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills, located at 9025 Cynthia St. in West Hollywood, has a Sunday service in English at 11 a.m. and a Korean service at 2 p.m. on April 9.
Cathedral Chapel of St. Vibiana, located at 923 S. La Brea Ave., will have Holy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. with the “Mass of the Lord’s Supper.” Good Friday services will be held at 2 and 7:30 p.m. A vigil of Easter service will take place 7:30 p.m. on April 8. Easter Services on April 9 will be at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon. The Cathedral Chapel school will also host an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. on April 9.
