The Los Angeles Parks Foundation on March 9 announced the purchase and donation of a 9.7-acre parcel previously owned by Hollywood studio magnate Howard Hughes in Griffith Park.
The Los Angeles Parks Foundation acquired the parcel with donations from Friends of Griffith Park, the West Valley Alliance for Optimal Living, Bob and Joan Young, and Annette Sikhand, as well as a $40,000 contribution from Councilwoman Nithya Raman, 4th District, from her discretionary Neighborhood Service Enhance-ment funds.
The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks was interested in acquiring the property for open space conservation and potential park development for active or passive use. The space will expand recreational activities in the area and conserve Griffith Park open space. The L.A. Parks Foundation’s mission is to enhance, expand, preserve and promote public recreation, parks and open space. For information, visit laparksfoundation.org.
