Work on the Purple Line Extension subway project along Wilshire Boulevard has shifted traffic lanes near Fairfax Avenue.
A new K-rail work zone has been installed along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard at Fairfax, and traffic lanes have been reconfigured to the south side of the street. The configuration will be in place for approximately four months to facilitate street restoration work on the north side of Wilshire/Fairfax. New concrete bus pads, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, planters, streetlights and traffic signals will be installed in the area. Once work on the north side is complete, crews will begin street restoration on the south side of the intersection.
To facilitate the work, Wilshire Boulevard has been reduced to two lanes in each direction between Spaulding Avenue and San Diego Way. Left turns from westbound Wilshire Boulevard to Ogden Drive, Orange Grove Avenue and southbound Fairfax Avenue are restricted. The sidewalk remains open along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard in front of the Academy Museum.
Crews are also conducting decking removal and street restoration at Wilshire/Fairfax on weekends through Feb. 20 from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Eastbound Wilshire Boulevard traffic will be detoured at La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards.
