The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles presents “Golden Age of Cinema in Postwar South Korea (1954-1972),” a film symposium on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1-4 p.m. in UCLA’s Charles E. Young Research Library, and on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 1-4 p.m. in KCCLA’s Ari Hall.

KCCLA director Jung Sangwon and GYOPO steering committee member Christine Y. Kim will host the two-day symposium with film scholars, writers and movie critics discussing the important era in Korean cinema. The symposium will focus on overlooked female directors active during the period, and will highlight films that influenced generations of Korean filmmakers during the following decades.

The forum will feature author Paul Fischer and movie critic and translator Darcy Paquet. Guest speakers include Christina Klein, Steven Chung, Kyung Hyun Kim and Irhe Sohn. Nahmee Lee, Laura Ha Reizman and Kathleen McHugh will moderate roundtable discussions.

The program is presented by KCCLA, GYOPO, UCLA Center for Korean Studies and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Admission is free. The UCLA Charles E.
