The beloved Mutti Gras Pet Parade and Costume Contest will return to the Original Farmers Market during its 33rd annual Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, and Fat Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The Mutti Gras Pet Parade and Costume Contest will be held on Feb. 18 from noon-1 p.m., and will feature furry friends dressed in fun and festive outfits. Pet owners can register dogs for the parade and costume contest by visiting the Dog Bakery at the Farmers Market, or calling (323)935-7512. Participation is free, and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed king and queen in multiple categories.
The festivities also include family activities such as face painting on Feb. 18 and a children’s tambourine-making workshop on Feb. 19. The workshops will be held from 1-4 p.m. on the market’s plaza.
Live entertainment will also be held throughout the weekend, with music by the Bear Brass Band, Kenny Sara and The Sounds of New Orleans, Rhythm Krewe, Alligator Beach, and Torrence Brannon and his band Everything with Soul. On Fat Tuesday, the Nervis Bros will perform on the west patio from 5:30-8 p.m.
Enjoy a taste of Mardi Gras with The Gumbo Pot, which will serve jambalaya, gumbo and po boys throughout the celebration. The Gumbo Pot’s beignet tent will also be located on the market’s plaza from noon-4 p.m. on Feb. 18-19. EB’s Beer and Wine will offer Abita Beer, a New Orleans brew.
