The Craft in America Center presents “Inspiration and Home: Highlights from the Episodes,” an exhibit on view through March 1 with work inspired by the 2022 television season of “Craft in America.”
The documentary series on PBS explores America’s creative spirit through the traditions of handmade goods. The new season includes the episodes “Inspiration” and “Home.” “Inspiration” reveals the magic and influence of craft. “Home” visits craft environments filled with meaning and artistry. The new season is streaming on PBS’ digital platforms.
The works in the exhibition show a dedication to telling stories and breadth of artistic exploration. Rarely exhibited traditional embroidery from the Hmong diaspora that translates language into stitched symbols is on display, in addition to innovative sculptural canvas wall hangings, poetic weavings based on issues of race, ceramics and beadwork. Artists include Alison Saar, Maddy Leeser, Diedrick Brackens, Mary Little, plus others from across the nation, Ayumi Horie, Suzanne Thao, Mandora Young and Greg Johnson.
The Craft in America Center is located at 8415 W. Third Street. For information, visit craftinamerica.org/page/center.
