The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority is providing updates on construction for the Purple Line Extension subway project running from Wilshire/Western to Westwood.
Work has been halted for the holidays in public spaces in Beverly Hills, but construction continues in the tunnels and construction staging areas. Construction also continues on sections of the project in the city of Los Angeles.
At the eastern end of the project, construction is occurring in work zones in the middle of Wilshire Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and June Street, and Ridgely Drive and Curson Avenue. Farther west, work continues in staging yards at Wilshire/La Brea, and in work zones along the northside of Wilshire Boulevard. Through February 2023, Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Highland and La Brea avenues. A K-rail work zone will be also implemented on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard from La Brea to Mansfield Avenue.
New work is also occurring near Wilshire/Fairfax. A K-rail work zone on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between San Diego Way and Spaulding Avenue will be in place for approximately one year. Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between San Diego Way and Spaulding Avenue.
Near Wilshire/La Cienega, work continues in staging areas and at street level along the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards. Station backfilling near Wilshire/La Cienega will occur throughout December from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays.
At Wilshire/Rodeo, work will continue underground and inside construction staging areas. Deliveries of material, equipment and concrete will continue daily and may require intermittent lane closures.
In Century City, work will continue throughout the holidays, including utility relocation along Avenue of the Stars and excavation in the Constellation station. Partial traffic lane closures will remain in place on Constellation Boulevard.
At the Westwood/UCLA station and Westwood/VA Hospital station, excavation, instrumentation and storm drain work will continue throughout the holidays. Through Dec. 23, storm drain catch basins will be installed for the Westwood/UCLA station. The work will require eastbound lane reductions from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. on weeknights on Wilshire Boulevard between Veteran Avenue and Westwood Boulevard.
At the Westwood/VA Hospital station, excavation is expected to continue throughout December from 5 p.m.-6 a.m. and 5 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Work within staging yard includes excavation, hauling, bracing installation, lagging and installation of station ventilation.
