Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, 3rd District, has been appointed as the newest member of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors. She replaces former Metro Board member and County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, who served on the board since 2014.
Horvath was elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 8, and assumed office on Dec. 5, after previously serving as a West Hollywood City Council member. She made history as the youngest woman to ever be elected to the board of supervisors and she has a long history of civic and social justice advocacy.
Horvath has worked on a broad range of transportation and mobility issues, from serving as a West Hollywood transportation commissioner to championing Metro rail projects throughout the 3rd District. She also initiated the West Hollywood Bicycle Task Force.
“We welcome Lindsey Horvath to the Metro family, and I look forward to working with her as we continue our efforts to build and operate a world class transportation system for all the people in Los Angeles County,” Metro Board chair and Glendale City Councilman Ara J. Najarian said.
“I am honored to be representing the 3rd District of Los Angeles County as a member of the Metro Board of Directors, and I look forward to bringing my experience as a consensus builder to deliver results for the community,” Horvath said. “I am eager to work with the entire Metro Board to ensure that our projects are delivered on time and on budget, while bringing new, innovative ideas to our transportation network throughout Los Angeles County.”
In addition to her duties as a Metro Board Member, Horvath will serve as a member of Metro’s Construction Committee and Operations, Safety and Customer Experience Committee. The Construction Committee oversees construction of Metro’s infrastructure projects, and the Operations, Safety and Customer Experience Committee oversees bus and rail operations, safety of the system and improving the customer experience.
“As the mayor of West Hollywood, Supervisor Horvath demonstrated, time and again, her commitment to building a more walkable and transit friendly community,” Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to work closely with her in the years ahead to improve mobility for all Angelenos.”
The 13-member Metro Board of Directors is comprised of the five Los Angeles County supervisors, four members appointed by the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee and the mayor of Los Angeles, and three members appointed by the mayor of Los Angeles. The District 7 director of the California Department of Transportation also serves on the board as a non-voting member.
