The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect responsible for the murder of a transient on Nov. 7 in the Los Angeles City College parking structure in East Hollywood.
At approximately 2:05 p.m., LASD deputies responded to a call from someone who found the victim in the parking structure at 640 N. Heliotrope Drive. The victim was lying on the ground suffering from stab wounds to the upper torso. Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel arrived and attempted to treat the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Delbert Ray Collett, 64. Investigators believe that Collet was in a stairwell of the parking structure when he was assaulted by a male suspect described as being Black and approximately 25-30 years old. The suspect was last seen walking southbound on Heliotrope Drive.
Ray Collett was a veteran of the United States Army and attended classes at LACC in 2014. Detectives are also attempting to locate the victim’s next of kin. Collett had previous addresses in Alaska, Oklahoma and Montana.
