Skylight Theatre Company and QueerWise will mark World AIDS Day by presenting “Queerly Imparted” on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. This will be its 8th annual World AIDS Day performance which is a tribute to lives that were lost to the disease, while at the same time encouraging awareness, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. This evening will also celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the spoken word troupe, QueerWise.
This landmark celebration will conclude with a presentation of the Skylight Theatre Company 2022 Icon Award to Michael Kearns for his many decades as a leader in the Los Angeles theatre community and, most importantly, his devotion to the illumination of HIV/AIDS in artistic terms. In 1986, Kearns directed “AIDS/US,” a revolutionary piece of theater that dared to present real-life stories told by PWAs (People With AIDS), produced by Gary Grossman.
“We need to rededicate not only our own personal commitment to end bigotry, racism and gender inequality, but the worldwide commitment to fighting oppression,” Grossman said.
