Re “WeHo Council approves Fountain bike lanes,” Nov. 24 issue
Making Fountain one lane in WeHo will be regrettable. It will move thousands of cars to Santa Monica, Willoughby, Waring and Melrose, and perhaps provide for a few hundred bike riders.
The current rush-hour back-ups will be made worse and cause frustration, longer commuting times, less time with family [and] friends, more shortcutting and a more dangerous environment. People will still need to get to jobs, school and errands.
Having an above-ground rail line along Route 66 (Santa Monica Boulevard) would take people out of their cars if commuting from Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, etc., and would have a shorter construction time than an underground line. But this plan is a reverse NIMBY, not caring about other neighborhoods or people who pass through West Hollywood.
After dealing with a long construction mess, we will find that it caused more problems than it solved.
