Actor James Stewart was shown in this photograph from the Oct. 14, 1982, issue of the Park Labrea News donating a candelabra for the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church’s “Christmas in October” fundraiser. Stewart was shown with Mrs. Delbert Mann, of Park La Brea’s Burnside Towers, and Mrs. Richard Valentine, co-chair of the benefit. Stewart, who was known for memorable roles in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “The Philadelphia Story” and “It’s a Wonderful Life,” was a longtime member of the congregation and supporter of the church, located at 505 N. Rodeo Drive. Stewart died on July 2, 1997, at the age of 89.
