West Hollywood City Council candidate Ben Savage has clarified his voter history, following an anonymous email published by an online blog that alleged he changed his registration to run in the West Hollywood election.
Savage said he has lived in the Norma Triangle district of the city for 18 years, confirmed by the real estate website Redfin, which lists his address as having last been sold in 2004. He switched his voter registration from West Hollywood to a Beverly Hills address owned by his family in 2017. Savage continued to live in his West Hollywood home, but said he had a stalker at the time and was advised to protect his public information and home address.
Savage is best-known for his role in the long-running ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” in which he played the “boy” of the title. He later reprised the role of Cory Mathews for several seasons of the Disney series “Girl Meets World.”
“It’s just that’s what happens when you’re a public figure,” he said. “You spend your whole life trying to not have people show up at your front door.”
On June 23, Savage reregistered as a West Hollywood voter.
“The only requirement is that a candidate is a registered voter in the city of West Hollywood at the time that they pull nomination papers,” City Clerk Melissa Crowder said. “Additionally, per Elections Code 10226, the nomination paper has a section for the candidate to complete.”
Savage went on to express the reasons he is passionate about running for City Council.
“I love this community so much, and I’m so passionate about West Hollywood,” said Savage, who holds a degree in political science from Stanford University. “And it’s been so wonderful to me that I want to get involved.”
He also expressed a desire to discuss and address issues he has spoken about with voters.
“Let’s talk about public safety. Let’s talk about affordable housing. Let’s talk about rent control. Let’s talk about traffic issues, bike lanes, new leadership, promoting and supporting local businesses,” he said.
A profile on Savage will run in the Oct. 27 issue as part of our ongoing series highlighting West Hollywood City Council candidates.

Councilmembers in West Hollywood are always extremely accessible. Even when they wish they weren’t sometimes! They expect people to “show up at their front door.” Everyone knows where they live. It’s a small town. They give out their personal cell phones. What does this guy think he’s going to do? Show up when he feels like it but keep acting like a celebrity?

If he loves this community so much, why has he never done anything to contribute to the city except until it involved getting him attention and headlines? Hard pass!
