The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles and the Korean American Calligraphy Association present the 31st annual “Exhibition of Korean American Calligraphy” running from Friday, Oct. 7, through Friday, Oct. 21, in the KCCLA Gallery.
Since its inception in 1990, many veteran artists have worked with the Korean American Calligraphy Association. In celebration of its anniversary, 47 calligraphers submitted artworks for the exhibit including calligraphy characters and traditional Korean paintings.
“Korean calligraphy is now recognized as a great work of art, going beyond simple writing skills and techniques, and has been recognized as a wonderful part of K-culture,” KCCLA director Sangwon Jung said. “Through this year’s calligraphy exhibition at the KCCLA, I hope that it will be a meaningful place to appreciate the various and high-quality works of art reflecting each artist’s soul in one place.”
An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 7. The association will hold a Calligraphy Performance and Korean Name Writing program at the reception, offering attendees an opportunity to learn more about Korean calligraphy and have their names written in the Korean alphabet.
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; the gallery will be closed on Oct. 10. KCCLA is located at 5505 Wilshire Blvd. For information, call (323)936-3014, or visit kccla.org.
