Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts has appointed writer/producer Pamela Beck and business leader/philanthropist Sandra Barros Lowy to its board of directors, chairman Michael Nemeroff announced Sept. 15.

“Pamela, who is deeply involved in the visual and performing arts in Los Angeles, continues a long legacy of service on the heels of her recent appointment as an arts and culture commissioner for the city of Beverly Hills, and Sandra, a global supporter of the arts in Los Angeles and Europe, brings her creative flair and proven experience as a business leader and philanthropist. The Wallis’ commitment to serving the greater Los Angeles community has never been more important, and we are fortunate that Sandra and Pamela have accepted these leadership roles on our Board of Directors,” Nemeroff said.

Beck is a writer/producer whose novels include the New York Times best sellers “Fling” and “Rich Men, Single Women.” She has written screenplays as well as novels and has developed and produced various film and television projects, including the adaptation of “Rich Men, Single Women” for Aaron Spelling and ABC. She has taught novel writing and screenwriting at UCLA and has been a resource at several YPO Universities. For over two decades she has served as an active board member of Center Theater Group, the non-profit organization responsible for all theater productions at the L.A. Music Center. She is a past board member for Center Dance Arts and cochaired The Music Center’s Spotlight Awards for several years. She has been a passionate supporter of Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art and is a recent artist member of Los Angeles Artists Association. She is also a member of Visionary Women. Beck’s other community activities include YPO, CEO and the Beverly Hills Police Chief’s Advisory panel, of which she is a former chairman.

Barros Lowy is a Los Angeles based business leader and philanthropist with strong business and personal ties to both the Washington metropolitan area and Europe. She grew up in Northern Virginia where her family founded and operated a successful construction and concrete company, JSC Co. At the age of 16, she began her career with JSC, learning all aspects of business from operations to finance to strategic planning. In 2010, she was named the company’s CEO, leading the operations and growth for over eight years until her re-location to the West Coast. Concurrent to her tenure at JSC, Barros Lowy served as a partner in the land acquisitions company, Branson Ventures, as well as a partner in Terra Developers, a real estate development firm. She relocated to the Los Angeles region in 2018 and has continued to invest in numerous undertakings including incubating a line of home décor and tabletop with Aquazzura and partnering with a luxury artisan jeweler.

Barros Lowy is a global supporter of the arts both in Los Angeles and Europe. She also feels a strong connection to organizations offering support to unhoused and underserved neighbors and as such has developed a close association with The Hollywood Food Coalition.

Barros Lowy holds a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration with a concentration on finance, tourism and hospitality) from George Washington University and a master’s degree (Real Estate Development) from New York University. While completing her post-graduate studies at NYU, she completed an additional program with the New York School of Design with a focus on interior design. In addition to English, she is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. Barros Lowy resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Peter Lowy.
