On Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli placed their handprints in cement in the forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise. Christoph Waltz appeared at the ceremony to speak on their behalf.
EON Productions is the British film production company that has produced 25 James Bond films since its formation by the late Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli and Harry Saltzman in 1961. As producers of the franchise, Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have produced some of the most successful Bond films ever made. They produced “GoldenEye” together, followed by the next eight Bond films: “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “The World Is Not Enough,” “Die Another Day,” “Casino Royale,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall,” “Spectre” and “No Time To Die.”
Wilson and Broccoli have produced and executive produced several independent film projects including: “The Rhythm Section,” “The Silent Storm,” “Radiator and Nancy.” Broccoli also produced the critically acclaimed “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool.” Broccoli’s latest film “Till,” starring Danielle Deadwyler and Whoopi Goldberg and directed by Chinonye Chukwu, is due for release in October.
Wilson and Broccoli have produced several successful stage productions including “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “A Steady Rain,” “Once” and most recently “Macbeth.” Broccoli has also produced “The Band’s Visit,” “Cyprus Avenue,” “ear for eye” and is currently producing “Sing Street.”
In 2014, Wilson and Broccoli were honored by the Producers Guild of America with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures and, in 2013, they received the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film for “Skyfall.” In 2008, Wilson and Broccoli were appointed Officers of the Order of the British Empire and in 2022 they were awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire. They will also be honored on the evening of Sept. 21 as the 2022 Pioneers of The Year by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation.
