Groundbreaking soul and R&B artist Booker T. Jones will perform during the 25th anniversary season of Sunset Concerts at the Skirball Cultural Center on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m.
Jones has an important place in the history of American music. At age 17, he fronted the seminal Memphis soul band Booker T. and the M.G.’s, a rare integrated group of musicians that served as the house band for Stax Records They worked with Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Wilson Pickett. Jones, who celebrates the 60th anniversary of the iconic song “Green Onions” this year, will lead the audience through a “Stax Revue” at the Skirball that illuminates his extraordinary career.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with museum gallery access and musical selections by Dublab DJ Psychedelic Stax. Sunset Concerts are free. The Skirball Cultural Center is located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. For information, call (310)440-4500, or visit skirball.org.
